Wing Chun Second Form

After a significant level of skill and understanding of Siu Lim Tau, the first form in wing chun, Chum Kiu is taught. As Chum Kiu builds upon arm and leg movements learnt in Siu Lim Tao, a good deal of time should be spent on the first form.

The second form fcousses on entry techiques into the opponent. The translation of Chum Kiu is ’searching for the bridge’. This is the second form in wing chun and acts as an intermediate level. Chum Kiu consists of a number of techniques which are designed to ‘bridge the gap’ to the opponent, hence the term ’searching for the bridge’. ‘Chum’ means ‘to seek’, and ‘Kiu’ means bridge – therefor Chum Kiu means ‘Bridge Hand’. Chum Kiu is a dynamic form as it develops the stance and is the first form that moves into footwork.
